Welcome to Roots of Wonder

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to relational learning through nature and peace building in the Tulsa area.  At this time, the Maiden Mysteries is our foundational programming. We also work in partnership with a number of local businesses and nonprofits to support creative educational opportunities for Tulsa's youth. Our programs offer a living curriculum centered in community that responds to the needs and interests of each child.

A Living Curriculum Centered in Community Values.

Earth as Foundation

Equality in Community

Equality in Community

All our programs start with the foundation of spending time in nature. When we learn to observe and listen to the natural world, it becomes a much needed refuge, and provides a template to solutions for our future.

We strive to work with an emerging style of collaborative leadership that recognizes the unique gifts each person brings to the group. We work within an anti-oppression lens, questioning our assumptions and encouraging one another to widen our understanding. All group members are guided into leadership roles when they are ready and willing to offer it to the community.

Arts for Self-Expression

Peace-Building for the Future

Peace-Building for the Future

The creative arts infuse all our programs. We provide opportunities for youth to discover their inner resources and express themselves in unique ways. Depending on the interest and gifts of the group we may include music, movement, writing, poetry, handwork, floral design, plant medicine crafting, drawing, painting, jewelry making, and more. Creative expression is integral in shaping the future.

We recognize and honor the long line of ancestors who have worked tirelessly for a world beyond war and where all people can live a life of dignity and opportunity. We are dedicated to teaching this history to our youth to give them strength, and endurance through these precious times of transition from childhood to adulthood as well as hope for the work they will do in the years ahead.

Non-Discrimination policy and land acknowledgment

Non-discrimination policy

We believe in the equality of all people regardless of race, sex, gender identification, sexual orientation, national origin, native language, religion, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Land Acknowledgment

We respectfully acknowledge that we operate on the Tribal Lands of the Mvskoke (Creek), Osage and Cherokee people. The process of knowing and acknowledging the land we stand on is a way of honoring and expressing our respect and gratitude to the tribes that have cared for this land as well as all Native people who call this land home today.  We are in intimate relationship with this land beneath our feet and the ancestors who walked here before us, who walk with us now, and who will walk here long after we are gone. We are dedicated to lifelong learning in reciprocal relationship with this land and her First people.
